Progression

Since the preliminary task, I feel that I have learnt quite a lot. For example, the picture quality is much better on my music magazine than on my college magazine. I have used more effects on my music magazine including adding an opaque glitter layer over the top to make it look like a lighting effect, changing the background from white to the image of a black curtain. I also used a range of different fonts and colours to make the cover more interesting. I learnt how to make the text look 3D using the contours tool which makes the mast head for my music magazine stand out much more than the text on my college magazine. My photo editing skills have also improved as I can now use the clone, heal and blur tools to remove blemishes and even skin tone more realistically.
I have learnt a lot about what attracts people to a magazine and how different demographics are more likely to buy some magazines than others. I learnt how to select a demographic and genre and try to create a magazine that would attract the selected people.

Doing the preliminary task helped me with creating my music magazine because it introduced me to catering to an audience, the names and terms used in the magazine industry and the basics of Photoshop. I think it enabled me to create a much better magazine as it built up the skills necessary.

Review Response

I have improved this contents page by moving both "features" and "news" headings and I think this has made it better. I tried adding another column for "regulars" but it was too small to read so I decided to go back to the original layout.

Review Response

In response to the feedback my teacher gave me, I will move the "News" heading to the left so it lines up with the "Features" heading. I will also make the QR code section smaller to try and fit on a regulars section.

I like the way you have put a few photos of what to expect on each page, i like the contrast of colours you have used they work well together, i like the font you have used it stands out really well.
For an improvement you could maybe make the photos a little better.

I love the colours you have used on your contents page because they really stand out and catch the eye. I also like the images you have used because they keep the page interesting instead of it being just text and one image. Overall I think your contents page is really really good. The only thing I can say is bad about it is that I'm not so keen on the font that you've used underneath the 'Features' title as I feel it's a bit too plain, but to be honest that's just a tiny thing that I personally don't like. It's really good.

Strengths of your contents page include that it is really bright and eye-catching, so will grab the reader's attention, the photos link in with the genre of your magazine, it looks really professional and similar to contents pages in pre-existing magazines.

You could improve on it by maybe having more actual contents, and put something in the right hand corner to make the page look a little fuller.

Fourth Contents Draft

I tried out using a white background, made the black block opaque and moved the location of all of the text and the photographs into a positioning that I feel looks more professional. However, I feel that the white background is too boring and doesn't fit with the theme of my magazine.

Third Contents Draft

On this draft I straightened out the black squares to fit with the conventions of other music magazine contents pages and made the "subscribe" text yellow to stand out more.

Second Contents Draft

I developed the last draft by moving the text and black boxes, making the background red, adding warning tape to link with my front page and changed the size and position of the photographs.

First Contents Draft

I took the conventional white background and added some black squares to use as a background for my text and a yellow rectangle to use as the background for the title and date. I then added photographs of my bands and some text, as well as page numbers. I created a QR code and added that as well.

Feedback Response

In response to the feedback I recieved I will try out my front cover with more coverlines and experiment with some other layouts for them to fill the space more.

From looking at your blog I can see that you've worked really hard and the work you've completed has been more detailed than anyone elses I've looked at. I think the calender on your blog is really cool, and the pictures you've uploaded such as from the Ed Sheeran concert enforce the genre of your blog too.

Your front cover is really good and follows covention, it shows you've paid a lot of attention to detail with it. I like the process you've shown throughout making your final draft, and I think that your final draft is eye-catching, the main image is really good and the cover lines would interest readers.

To improve I would maybe add more cover lines to make it look less empty.

Too much work to look at all of it but from what I've seen so far it looks really good and pretty detailed, the front cover is excellent, probably the best one i've seen so far, and you've done more work then i have so that's a positive.

I love your blog! the layout and research is great! It's fantastic! You've done loads of extra research.

You're front cover is really strong! I love the no access style banner as it reflects the genre you have picked! Your colour scheme is also really effective!

You can maybe develop your front cover by the layout of the features, possibly experiment with moving around! But overall it's fantastic! Well done!

Your blog is really good and you have gone into detail in every aspect of it. By including a detailed printscreen of your process of creating your front cover it helps underdstand how you created it.
Your front cover is really good and your masthead is rerally effective as it stands out.
