Progression

Since the preliminary task, I feel that I have learnt quite a lot. For example, the picture quality is much better on my music magazine than on my college magazine. I have used more effects on my music magazine including adding an opaque glitter layer over the top to make it look like a lighting effect, changing the background from white to the image of a black curtain. I also used a range of different fonts and colours to make the cover more interesting. I learnt how to make the text look 3D using the contours tool which makes the mast head for my music magazine stand out much more than the text on my college magazine. My photo editing skills have also improved as I can now use the clone, heal and blur tools to remove blemishes and even skin tone more realistically.
I have learnt a lot about what attracts people to a magazine and how different demographics are more likely to buy some magazines than others. I learnt how to select a demographic and genre and try to create a magazine that would attract the selected people.

Doing the preliminary task helped me with creating my music magazine because it introduced me to catering to an audience, the names and terms used in the magazine industry and the basics of Photoshop. I think it enabled me to create a much better magazine as it built up the skills necessary.
